Lancaster has a city manager/city council form of government. The seven member City Council includes six members elected from single-member districts; and the mayor, who is elected by the entire city. The city’s Municipal Center houses several city departments and is the location of the City Council meetings.
Meeting the challenge on a daily basis is a city staff of about 200 employees, forming the basis for one of the best-managed cities in Texas. The Lancaster Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency experiencing a renaissance. With a new command structure and expanded service delivery system, the department embraces a philosophy of community-based policing and problem-solving. Personal safety and emergency management are the top priorities of the Lancaster Fire Department. In addition to customary fire suppression activities, the department provides paramedic-level emergency medical services from three fire stations. The department’s personnel are trained and equipped to provide assistance in times of need.
